Striker joins the U's on three year deal
Oxford United are delighted to announce that forward Kemar Roofe has joined the club from West Bromwich Albion for an undisclosed fee.
22-year-old Kemar came through the ranks at West Brom and was a huge hit with Oxford fans when he joined on loan in February this year, scoring six goals in the final seven games of the season and being nominated for League 2 Player of the Month.
That form alerted plenty of other clubs but after signing a three-year-deal with the U’s Kemar said:
“It was an easy decision. Not only have I enjoyed my football at Oxford and been made to feel really welcome but I have also seen how ambitious the club are. We finished last season really strongly, the bulk of that side will be here next season and there is a really positive atmosphere around the whole club.
“The fans played a big part as well. They have been great with me and I would love to be part of a team that brings them the success they deserve.”
Head Coach Michael Appleton knows all about Kemar having worked with him in the Academy at The Hawthorns before bringing him to the Kassam Stadium.
“He did really well last season” Michael said. “He is quick, he has an eye for goal and he does things defenders aren’t expecting, which is always going to make him dangerous.
“He got better with every game and I honestly believe there is more to come from him so it is an excellent signing for the club. Everywhere I have gone people have been asking if there was any chance we could get him here on a permanent deal so I am sure the fans will be excited that he will be an Oxford player next season.”
