Five goals in six games see Kemar nominated for Sky Bet award
Kemar Roofe’s fantastic April has seen him shortlisted for the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month. The on-loan West Brom forward has scored five goals in six games, including three in his last two games, to catch the eye of the judging panel of Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
Kemar told us:
“It’s great to be nominated. The team has done really well in April and I have been enjoying my football. I have managed to score a few goals but that’s only possible because we are doing well as a group. Hopefully we can carry on this form and win our last game of the season at Newport on Saturday as well.”
The April nominations for the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month Award are:
Kemar Roofe (Oxford United) – striker
The on-loan West Brom forward struck a rich vein of form with five goals in six games, including two each in the away wins at Wycombe Wanderers and Tranmere Rovers. A fine individual effort against Cambridge United was the pick of his haul.
Adam Barrett (Southend United) – central defender
Proved that age is no barrier to playing well with a series of inspiring displays at the heart of a Southend defence which didn’t concede in seven April games. Allied organisational skills to his no-nonsense approach to defending.
Connor Goldson (Shrewsbury Town) – central defender
The 22-year-old enjoyed a perfect April. The Shrews won every one of his four games and didn’t concede a single goal. His aerial prowess proved useful at the other end, too, with two powerful headers clinching a 2-0 win over Dagenham & Redbridge.
Jed Wallace (Portsmouth) - midfielder
Showcased his talents in the month after he turned 21. A constant threat to defences, he was deployed more centrally at the tip of the midfield diamond and scored with long-range strikes against Carlisle United, Plymouth Argyle and Mansfield Town.
The winner will be announced on Friday morning.
