Striker joins the U's
Oxford United are pleased to announce the signing of striker John Campbell.John, 26, began his career at Newcastle United and had a spell at Manchester City before joining Darlington. He has been attracting plenty of interest this season after scoring 24 goals in 19 games for Jarrow Roofing in Northern League Division 1 and impressed recently in a Development game for the U’s.
He joins on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Head Coach Michael Appleton said:
“I know a lot of clubs have been looking at him this season and I think it speaks volumes that he has come here. He has been scoring plenty of goals and gets in great positions and we are delighted that he has chosen to join Oxford United.
“Like Chey Dunkley and Patrick Hoban, who both signed last week, we have brought in a good player with a hunger and a point to prove. Obviously it’s a step up but we are looking forward to working with him and he is a player we are very excited to have here.”
John said:
“I came down and had a look at the club and the facilities a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed by everything. Not just the set up but the attitude here; everything and everyone is really positive.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for me to be playing in the Football League again and I can’t wait to get started.”
John will go straight in to the squad to take on Cheltenham Town on Saturday. See a first interview in Yellow Player
