United Ladies progress in Cup

Oxford United Ladies team win 2-1 at Charlton Athletic to progress to 4th round

Oxford United Ladies produced the shock of the WFA Cup third round yesterday when they came back from a goal down to beat National Division side Charlton Athletic 2-1 at the Addicks' Thamesmead ground.

Charlton, two divisions above United,  took the lead after nine minutes through Jenny Newman and held the lead until half-time. United equalised early in the second half when Lauren Allison headed home from a corner. Natasha Caswell won the tie for the U's with 16 minutes remaining when she curled home a direct free-kick from 20 yards.

Oxford become the first Combination team to beat a National Division side in the competition since 2004.

The Ladies have been drawn to Newcastle United Ladies in the fourth round. The match is to be played on Sunday 24th February, kick off 2pm at the Oxford Sports & Social Club ground in Roman Way.
