United We Stand

Mullins impressed as United start season in style

United We Stand was the message over the summer and it seems to be having a massive effect with The U’s sitting pretty with maximum points from their two games.

“I have never played in a squad that is so together” defender Johnny Mullins told Yellow Player after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Bury. “There is a togetherness and a belief and camaraderie, from the players through to the staff. We win together and we will lose together but whatever happens we will keep fighting” Johnny told us after his match winning strike shook The Shakers.

That unity extends to the stands and the Yellow Army will be marching together as they head for Torquay on Saturday. Centre-half Mullins paid tribute to the fans for the backing they have given to the team. 2,500 travelled to see the opening day win at Portsmouth and the supporters lifted the side when they most needed it in the opening home game of the season.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better home start to the season” Mullins said. “We wanted to make it a fortress and the fans have a massive part to play in that. We are out there on the pitch to win the game but they help us so much and at 1-1 it would have been easy for them to think 'here we go again' but they stuck behind us. Thankfully we got the winner. Some days that winner won’t happen but we need as many people with us, home and away, supporting us as we possibly can because they can make such a difference. “
