U's get ready for Pompey opener
The talking is over and it's all systems go for the U's as they head for Portsmouth for the opening Sky Bet League 2 game of the season.
Over 20,000 fans are expected to pack Fratton Park including over 2,500 of the Yellow Army with manager Chris Wilder telling Yellow Player:
"Pre-season has gone really well and it's now all systems go for Saturday. We approached the last two games in a very positive way and now we will look to carry that on. What a brilliant first game it is going to be."
United look set to hand debuts to David Hunt, Tom Newey and former Pompey striker Dave Kitson, while Johnny Mulins and Danny Rose stand by for second debuts after returning to the U's.
The only man missing out is midfielder Jon Meades who has ruptured ligaments in his left ankle which will keep him out of action for 12 weeks. "It is unfortunate for the lad," Chris told Yellow Player. "He has worked hard in pre-season and looked sharp but he will get his chance later in the season now."
Goalkeeping coach Wayne Brown is also on crutches after a fall at home which means that Academy coach Des Buckingham will help with the keeper warm up as Ryan Clarke returns from injury.
Fans are reminded that this game is SOLD OUT for United fans and no tickets will be on sale on the day of the game.
The following Saturday sees United at home to Bury in the first home game of the season. Be sure to be part of the crowd as United get started at the Kassam Stadium. Call 01865 337533 or visit www.oufctickets.co.uk top book your seat.
