All Systems Go

Manager ready for Fratton Opener

Manager Chris Wilder sends his new look team into action for the first time at Fratton Park tomorrow as the U’s travel to Portsmouth in Skybet League 2.  After a successful pre-season United  will take 2,500 fans to a sold-out opening game which has captured the imagination of everyone.

“All our focus is on the first game of the season and we’re ready” Chris told Yellow Player. “The players have been superb throughout everything we’ve done in pre-season. We had a meeting when we came back from Scotland, then we wanted to attack the two home friendlies in the right manner and we’ve done that and now it’s all systems go for the first game of the season and what a brilliant first game it’s going to be.

“It’s a great first game. Our 2,500 tickets sold out in a heartbeat and theirs did as well so we’re looking forward to a cracking afternoon and one that really is a head-turning fixture. They’re two good teams and two teams that I expect to be in and around the top of the league and a fantastic crowd to witness it.

“The atmosphere won’t turn the staff’s heads and won’t turn the players’ heads. When I look through the team, right the way through we’ve got a really good mix of footballers that have had promotions under their belt, they’ve been there and done it and they’ll be rubbing their hands together when they walk out to warm up at quarter past two. That’s something that will work in our favour, we’ve got players that will rise to the occasion and meet the challenge head on.”
