The manager's thoughts on Saturday's win over Bury
Manager Chris Wilder was delighted to see his side make it a maximum six points from the first week of the season with a 2-1 win over Bury on Saturday. Goals from Danny Rose and Johnny Mullins earned United a hard-fought win and as Chris told Yellow Player after the game, United’s home record will be a key factor in a successful season:
“It was vital that we got a win under our belts,” Chris said. “It maybe wasn’t the way we would have liked to do it after taking what I thought was a deserved lead but the character of the side shone through.
“We are here to win games and we need to make sure that the home record is a good one this year, so to get the first win on the board is great for us.”
United were pegged back by Bury when Tom Soares equalised after the break but the new-look U’s are a resilient lot, as Chris explained:
“With the boys we have brought in and the changes we have made over the summer that might be a game that last year could have ended in a draw. We didn’t start the second half the way we should have done and only started playing when they got back on level terms. The players know that and we have talked about that, but you never turn a win down.
“Everyone will go away having enjoyed the game and we will do our best to make sure we have a solid home record over the rest of the games here.”
