Chris Wilder on United's 3-0 win
United ended their home season on a high with a 3-0 win over Rochdale on Saturday. Stunning goals from Andy Whing, James Constable and Alfie Potter sent the home fans away happy with manager Chris Wilder pleased to see his side convert their chances:
“We needed to end the season like that” Chris told Yellow Player. “The results have not been good enough here. I am delighted that Andy Whing got us going. I am sure that if we had had him available from the start of the season, with a few others, we would have got a few extra points because I thought he was immense. I’m nicking the Man off the Match award off young Max and giving it to Andy Whing because he deserves it.
“His goal got us going and we were clinical in both boxes. Defensively we were sound in a tight end of season game. When we had the opportunity to score we did it, which is something we have not done enough this year.
“We have had a lot of games which have been 70/30 or 60/40 to us but today was more of a 50/50 and when we had the chances we took them. It was a great ball in for the first goal; we’ve not always had enough quality in the final third, and then a great finish. Beano’s was a fantastic strike and the last one showed great attitude. 2-0 up in the 93rd minute and Riggy chases the ball, brushes three or four challenges off and slips Alfie in. He could have got in on his own but we are delighted that Alfie rounded a good season at home for him with a goal”.
