Smalley and Rigg doubts as United take on Swindon
United will wait on the fitness of Deane Smalley and Sean Rigg as they welcome Swindon Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tonight. The front two picked up injuries at York on Saturday and Manager Chris Wilder will weight up his options before naming his side to face United's local rivals.
Chris told Yellow Player:
"Deane Smalley jarred his knee on Saturday, which is why he came off. I thought he was excellent in that game again. And Sean Rigg got a cut on the back of his heel. I think a goal is just around the corner for him, he has been playing well too. So they are the two doubts for Wednesday but whatever system we go for and whoever plays, it opens it up for people like JP Pittman, Tom Craddock and James Constable. What better way to show what you can do than in this game."
Whoever starts, it is a squad game and Chris is looking for a positive impact from the bench as well as from the start:
"The whole squad will play a part. I have told them that I have been a touch disappointed with the impact that our substitutes have had and they need to do a little bit more. We are not weakening the side but they have to pick up the pace a bit quicker. I know how difficult it is at times to come on as a sub but really they have to have an impact straight away because we have always done that. We have always been a side that will make positive changes, whether we are in the lead or chasing a game.
"It is a great opportunity tonight for all of us, playing in a fantastic atmosphere, against really good opposition.”
