Chris Wilder looks ahead to Wednesday night
United welcome local rivals Swindon Town tomorrow night in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. It is a huge game as the U's look to make it an unprecedented four wins on the bounce against the Robins, and with a bumper crowd expected it promises to be another night to remember.
"It’s a great draw. If you beat your local rivals you can’t beat that feeling, but it will be a tough one for us." Chris Wilder told Yellow Player. " I think everyone can see what their pathway is, and what they have done, and what the aim is and what the pitfalls could be. They brought in a lot of players last season, a lot this and also a lot in the last two weeks so they have massively strengthened and invested, and we know we will be playing against quality individuals. They will be hurting after losing on Sunday too.
"We have to play well, there are no two ways of looking at it, but there is no need for me to have to cajole and gee the players up. The players that were here last year know the atmosphere at both games. We had two good results in those and are looking to make it three on the spin."
We asked Chris whether the white hot atmosphere at the games last season took him a little by surprise?
"The first one did, not the second. And I didn’t realise the stat about not winning there for thirty plus years. I didn’t really get that until we were approaching the ground. The second game was an unbelievable place to be that day.
"We were excellent in terms of desire and the energy we had to play for so long against a really good passing side, and to show those energy levels towards the back end of the game was superb."
