Oxford United Women’s hard work over the Christmas period paid off in the form of a 6-1 win at Keynsham this afternoon in the National League thanks to two goals from Cheryl Williams and strikes from Steph Bent, Sophie Baker, Brogan Moore, Georgia Clifford and Carly Johns
Williams gave the U's the lead on 13 minutes when Clifford received the ball on the left and whipped in a low cross which Williams lashed home to give the visitors an early advantage.
Keynsham looked to turn up the pressure to get back into the game but the United backline stood strong to block a number of shots until just before half time when the home team curled an impressive equaliser into the far corner of keeper Aimee Watson’s net to bring the scores level right on the whistle.
Liam Gilbert’s half-time team talk certainly got the Yellows firing on all cylinders, regaining the lead moments after the restart when Bent’s unmarked run into the box paid off as she tapped home to make it 2-1.
The third came when Baker made the keeper save at short range, and as the ball rolled free of her grasp it was Moore who made the keeper pay and United weren’t going to let The K’s off lightly after that goal when Williams raced clear and placed a tidy shot past the goalkeeper and low into the far corner for her second to make it 4-1.
With Lauren Haynes doing well in midfield some neat passing helped the U's score two more goals with Clifford scoring from close range before Johns latched onto a loose ball to make it six and seal another emphatic win.
