Ole Romeny became Oxford United’s first signing of the January transfer window as he signed a long-term contract from Eredivisie side FC Utrecht.
The 24-year-old forward arrives with a wealth of experience in the Dutch top flight and is now raring to get going in the Championship.
Speaking to OUTV after signing, Ole said: “I’m really excited by this move and I can’t wait to get started.
“I have known about the move for a few months. I know Erick Thohir who I met in Indonesia, and he told me about the Club, and I have followed the team’s games.
“Erick also told me about the plans for the Club which are extremely ambitious, and I believe this will really suit me.
“Now, I just want to get started and meet the team and I’m excited to play in the Championship.”
A former Netherlands Under-20 representative, in November of 2024 he opted to represent Indonesia at national team level.
A player who can play across the front line, Romeny’s best season in front of goal came in the 2022/23 campaign when he got 11 goals in 33 league appearances for Emmen in the Dutch top flight.
While goals are the priority, he says he can offer much more to the team and takes pride in his creativity, but the most important thing is coming in and helping United win games and climb the table.
He added: “As a player, I’m a forward that likes to make important contributions to the team. If I can’t score goals, then I want to set them up for others and I feel I am creative with the ball at my feet to do this.
“I want to come in and help the team win games, that’s the most important thing. I also can’t wait to meet all the supporters at the stadium.”
He is not the only Dutchman at the Club, with former teammate Hidde ter Avest and Dutch-raised Ruben Rodrigues already in OX4.
Having spent time with ter Avest at FC Utrecht, Romeny already has familiar faces at the Club to help him settle in.
“I played with Hidde for a year. He is a really nice guy, and I spoke to him before signing and he only had positive stories to tell me. Ruben played for a team near my area I come from, so I know who he is.
“It’s always nice to know some guys that you can follow in your first few days as you don’t know anybody in the building.
“I know Hidde will help me with things outside of football also, so that’s really important, but I can’t wait to see all the guys and to get started here.”
