PREVIEW: Oxford United vs Portsmouth

Portsmouth Tickets

Oxford United welcome Portsmouth to the Kassam Stadium this Saturday (kick-off 12:30pm) in their latest Championship fixture. This will be the 78th meeting between the sides - the most United have played against any opponent.

The sides drew 1-1 at Fratton Park in October, thanks to Louie Sibley's equaliser, and they drew 2-2 in the previous meeting at the Kassam Stadium last season, thanks to James Henry's last-gasp goal.

OXFORD UNITED

United will be looking to maintain their good home form, which has seen them unbeaten in their last five games at the Kassam Stadium, and will be targeting getting back to winning ways, having failed to pick up three points in any of their last four.

However, they are without centre backs Elliott Moore and Ben Nelson due to injury, with forward Tom Bradshaw the latest to miss out following an injury received in training last week, although winger Stan Mills came off the bench in Tuesday's 0-0 draw at Derby and will be pressing for more game time on Saturday.

United will be using the game as an opportunity to remember Joey Beauchamp, who died on 19 February 2022. There will be a minute's applause in the 11th minute and a fundraising raffle for the Joey Beauchamp Foundation.

The game is also Oxford United's Blue Light Day, in which we honour our dedicated public services. We’ll be joined by representatives from Thames Valley Police, South Central Ambulance Service, Oxford Fire & Rescue, and NHS Oxfordshire, who will be on hand in the Exhibition Bar to interact with fans before the match kicks off.

Oxfordshire NHS will offer BMI checks, blood pressure monitoring, and health advice, so don’t forget to stop by for a chat and learn more about staying healthy. South Central Ambulance Service will also be hosting CPR and defibrillator awareness workshops, with their mascot, 999Ted, making an appearance to engage with our younger U’s supporters.

Oxford Fire & Rescue and Thames Valley Police will have representatives available to meet fans, as well as a selection of small emergency vehicles on display outside the South Stand for all to explore.

Our friends from Blue Light Tickets will be with us in the Exhibition Bar to meet with their members and all other supporters, so be sure to say hello to them!

Blue Light Day activities will be open to supporters from 10:00am on Saturday, so come early and take the opportunity to thank those who serve our community.

PORTSMOUTH

The visitors, under the management of former United defender John Mousinho, have won just once on the road this season, a 2-1 win at QPR in October. However, last time out they beat Cardiff City 2-1 at Fratton Park to lift themselves to 18th, four points above the drop zone. Former Oxford winger and Wembley hero Josh Murphy claimed two assists against the Bluebirds.

The win over Cardiff was not without cost, however, as defender Conor Shaughnessy limped off with a hamstring injury and is a huge doubt for the game against the U's.
