PREVIEW: Middlesbrough vs Oxford United

Middlesbrough Tickets

Following the international break, Oxford United's season resumes with a trip to the Riverside to take on eighth-placed Middlesbrough, who are just three points adrift of the play-off places.

United's last visit to Boro was a thrilling FA Cup fifth-round tie in February 2017, when two goals in a minute pulled Oxford level after trailing 2-0. Unfortunately, Middlesbrough won the game with a late goal but any Oxford supporter present will always remember that day.

OXFORD UNITED

Last time out, United beat Watford 1-0 thanks to Siriki Dembélé's 82nd-minute goal. Oxford will be looking to build on that result as the season enters its closing stages.

The U's will still be without skipper Elliott Moore, but could have some of their injured players back in contention, with Greg Leigh, Tom Bradshaw and Joe Bennett  close to returning. Head Coach Gary Rowett also needs to decide if Ole Romeny and Marselino Ferdinan, who returned from Indonesia yesterday, will be ready for league action. Romeny scored twice for Indonesian in his first appearances on the international stage.

MIDDLESBROUGH

Boro have several players absent through injury, with Luke Ayling, Sol Brynn, Seny Dieng, Darragh Lenihan and Alex Bangura all long-term absentees. However, Rav van den Berg and Riley McGree are both back in training and they also have George Edmundson and Dael Fry closing in on returns. Whether any of these will be risked on Saturday is something Middlesbrough head coach Michael Carrick is considering.

In their last fixture before the break, Middlesbrough were held to a goalless draw at Luton Town where, despite having no fit centre-backs, Jonny Howson and Neto Borges managed to keep a clean sheet.
