Kyle Edwards has re-signed for Oxford United on a short-term contract following the expiration of his contract at the end of last season.
Edwards joined United on loan at the start of the 2023/24 season, before signing permanently in January on a deal until the end of the campaign.
Unfortunately, Edwards’ season ended prematurely in November following a hamstring injury. However, the former England Under-20 international remained at the Club to continue his rehabilitation.
Following a positive summer on the training pitch for Edwards where he has re-integrated with the group again, the Club are delighted to secure his services in the Championship – a division in which Edwards has played in 32 times and won promotion from with West Bromwich Albion.
Speaking after re-signing, Edwards said: “This has been a tough time for me in my career to battle through injury, but I am so thankful for everything the Club and the people around me have done to help me return to fitness.
“It was my ambition all summer to fight my way back and to show that I could be part of the team again, so when the Club came to me with this contract it was a no-brainer.
“I am so determined to get back on the pitch and do what I love. I want to try to deliver for the team and repay the faith they have shown in me.
“The team have started the season so well and I’m excited to be part of this special time for everyone involved.”
Des Buckingham, Head Coach, said: “Kyle is one of the most upbeat people I have met in football and his influence around our Training Ground is so strong.
“It has been a very hard time for Kyle in his Oxford United career, but no matter what, he has remained a picture of positivity and has done extremely well to fight his way back to fitness.
“What is clear with Kyle is that he is a player with immense quality, and the coaching staff and I have borne witness to that since he has come back into the group and we are pleased to have him with us."
Ed Waldron, Head of Football Operations, said: “Kyle has not had the Oxford United career that he hoped for when signing, but even in the short time he has played, we have all seen the quality he has.
“It has been a frustrating time for him, but he has remained positive through injury and further setbacks, and kept his head down to keep fighting away to get back to this position.
“Kyle is in a great position now and he feels close to his physical best, and to have someone with his ability in the team is a real positive for us.
“Kyle has been training extremely well and it’s fantastic for us to continue to have him at Oxford United.”
