Oxford United are excited to announce Joe Bennett has extended his contract with the club, which will see the defender remain for the 2024/25 season.
Bennett joined the U’s on a short-term deal in November, before signing a contract in January until the end of the season, featuring 22 times in all competitions as he helped the club return to the second tier of English football for the first time in 25 years.
The 34-year-old played a crucial role as the club secured promotion to the Championship, starting in all three games in the play-off campaign against Peterborough over two legs and that historic victory against Bolton Wanderers in the final at Wembley.
The experienced left-back is no stranger to the EFL Championship having played much of his career in the second division for Middlesbrough, Brighton, Cardiff, and Wigan, as well as Premier League exposure with Aston Villa earlier in his successful career.
Speaking to the club after re-signing, Joe Bennett said: “I am absolutely delighted to remain at Oxford United for this Championship season.
“I have loved every minute of being at the club since arriving in November and I can’t wait to experience this level of football once again, doing so in this exciting period for the club.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity Oxford United gave me back in November and I want to continue to give my maximum to ensure more success in this new campaign.”
