Gary Rowett arrived at Oxford United in late December with the Club falling into the bottom three for the first time in the season. With one game to spare, the Head Coach has guided United to safety in the Championship in what has been a monumental season.
Defeating Sunderland 2-0 in the final home game of the season, thanks to goals from Ben Nelson and Michal Helik, Oxford United confirmed their status in the second-tier of English football for the 2025/26 season.
Since Rowett arrived at the Club, the form would see the U's in the top ten in the division - an incredible run in a season to remember.
Speaking post-match to OUTV, Rowett thanked the fans for their immense support, and for what he described as one of the best atmosphere's he has witnessed in his career.
He said: "Until today, the support has been incredible. It has exceeded even my expectations.
"I have been at some big clubs, but today's atmosphere is as good as anything I've witnessed. The crowd from the off felt louder. It felt more positive. When the team needed it, the crowd got behind them. We can go a long way with that.
"For all the staff, players, fans, everyone, it's amazing. To do what we've done is a massive achievement.
"We know the challenge of this division and I'm immensely proud of what they have done."
