Oxford United are delighted to announce the signing of forward Will Goodwin on a long-term deal from Cheltenham Town. He will wear the number 25 shirt.
The 21-year-old, who began his career at Chester aged nine, signed for Stoke in 2021 before loan spells with Hartlepool United and Torquay United. He joined Cheltenham Town in January 2023 and has scored 6 goals in 16 league appearances so far this season.
Oxford United Head Coach, Des Buckingham, said:
"I'm really pleased that Will has chosen to join us. His work rate and physical attributes will complement our squad, and he’s already beginning to realise his potential.
“Will is an outstanding talent who is capable of making a big contribution to this club. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
Goodwin told oufc.co.uk: “This was a big decision for me, and I am determined to repay the faith that the club has shown in me.
“Having spoken with the gaffer, I was really impressed by what he’s doing here and the club’s vision. I know this is the right place for the next stage of my career and can’t wait to get started.”
Head of Recruitment, Ed Waldron, added: “We have acted decisively in recent transfer windows to secure our main targets. Will is another player we have been tracking for some time and believe now is the right time to bring him to the club.
“He’s young, fits the profile of the type of character we want, and already has experience at this level. Will turned down other offers to come here and his decision to join us is a real endorsement of what we’re building.”
Goodwin has been recovering from a minor quad injury and will complete his rehabilitation with the club’s medical team before joining the squad for full training at the end of the month.
Will's home, away and third kits are available to sponsor. Call 01865 337503/513 or email commercial@oufc.co.uk to enquire.
