PREVIEW Oxford United v Barnsley

Oxford United welcome Barnsley to the Kassam Stadium tonight in Sky Bet League 1 (7.45pm)

The U's and the Tykes are locked together in fifth and sixth place on 49 points after 26 games, with both sides keen to get back in to action after postponements at the weekend.

TEAM NEWS
United welcome back Sam Long after injury. The defender is someone Des Buckingham knows well, as he told iFollow

"I coached Sam in the under 9s when he was starting out as a player and I was starting as a coach! It's been quite a journey and he has been a wonderful servant to the club. He is fit and will be in the squad again. We may have Stephan Negru and Josh Murphy available as well; if not then for Bristol Rovers on Saturday so we are getting players back at a key time in the season."

Jamie Cumming makes his home debut after joining from Chelsea on loan while Tyler Burey will be hoping for his first appearance since joining from Odense. New signing Will Goodwin is making good progress after a quad injury but is still a week or two away from being involved.

THE OPPOSITION
Barnsley Boss Neill Collins was unimpressed after a second pitch inspection led to his side’s game at Stevenage being called off on Saturday. Having survived an 11am inspection the game was called off at 1pm.

"The biggest frustration for me is that 1,300 Barnsley fans were coming to support the team." he said “I'm really frustrated and disappointed. I think the Football League need to have a review of how they handle these situations”.

Barnsley, with former United player Herbie Kane always a danger and Devante Cole the top scorer in the division, are right up there alongside United in the form table with six wins and four draws from their last 10 games in League One

THOSE WE HAVE LOST
There will be a period of applause just before the game where we remember the Oxford United fans who sadly passed away during 2023. This has been moved to this fixture after Saturday's postponement. Please join us in saluting those we have lost.

PARKING AND ACCESS
There are around 2,000 free parking spaces at the stadium but we ask everyone to arrive early and park legally.

The gate behind the Planet IT North Stand will be open so pedestrians can move from one end of the ground to the other behind that stand.
