Oxford United look to turn a run of three hard-fought draws into a winning performance on Tuesday night when they welcome Wigan Athletic to the Kassam Stadium.
A draw at Blackpool kept United in the play-off chasing pack on Saturday and having reflected on the game over the weekend, Boss Des Buckingham felt his side might have come away from Bloomfield Road with more than just the one point.
“It was a good game against a side with a very healthy record at home. Not many people have got anything there this season and yet we came away thinking we should have won it in the end with the big chances we created in the box.
“But to come away with a point and to also get minutes into players who were returning, we have plenty of positives to take into Tuesday night.
“Owen Dale will come back into the group and we have had other players back at the end of three tough games - against Portsmouth the leaders, a local derby with Reading and then one of the best sides at their own home on Saturday. We have stayed in and around it through that and are going to get stronger.
“With a third of the season left then three wins in a row can rocket you up the table. Through the season we have already seen teams losing games they are expected to win, we have seen last minute winners and teams picking up points late on. That has been happening all season but the fact is that most people start paying more attention to it from now on.
“We are getting stronger day by day and game by game but it’s a close league this season so we won’t look too far forward, just concentrate on Tuesday night and doing things properly.
“We saw against Reading that a points deduction can position you falsely in the table and not be a true reflection of where you should be. Wigan have a wonderful Manager who has done an excellent job there and they have been picking up results so we have to be mindful of that.
“But we have our fans behind us, we have players coming back, and we will be going out there looking to get a win for those fans.”
