Oxford United look to stretch their unbeaten run to five games when they travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday (3pm)
“It was a good win on Tuesday against Wigan” Head Coach Des Buckingham told iFollow today “and we will need another on Saturday. Wycombe is always a difficult place to go and they have had some good results recently including beating Peterborough, so we know we will have to put in a strong performance.
“But we are starting to get players back and it’s nice to see the medical room starting to empty. Competition for places is crucial and everyone saw the impact we had from the bench on Tuesday. Now we have Will Goodwin, Joe Bennett, Oisin Smyth and Josh McEachran all available as well so that competition is only going to get more intense.
“I don’t mind having some big decisions to make, that’s always part of the job and it’s probably the first time I have had this since I came in.
"Players are pushing each other, training has been excellent and the attitude has been spot on as well. Players may be disappointed if they aren’t involved but it’s not about me having those difficult conversations, it’s all about picking a team and a bench that can get a positive result from each particular game.
“We are in a strong position and that will only get stronger so we have to keep building, go to Wycombe where we know the fans will have travelled in numbers, and give them a performance that helps us bring three points back down the M40.”
