Oxford United U19s beat Forest Green Rovers U19s 4-1 on Saturday morning in the EFL Youth Alliance League.
Goals from Louis Griffiths, Kasway Burton and a double for U16 striker Jack Lee earned the U’s their second win of the league campaign.
The young U’s went behind early on due to a defensive error but showed determination and quality to come back quickly and win comfortably.
First, Zaide Took-Oxley did well to press high, pounce on a loose pass and find Josh Holton on the right. Holton then crossed to Griffiths who calmly slotted home to level the game.
Holton then got his second assist of the day, sliding Lee in on goal with a clever split pass, with the latter finishing confidently into the bottom left corner.
The third goal was the pick of the bunch as a superb team move was finished off by Lee for his second of the day. Tobias Brenan drove past four FGR midfielders before finding Burton on the right. His cross was knocked back across goal by Griffiths and tucked home from close range by Lee to make it 3-1 in the second half.
Holton rounded off an excellent display with a third assist, setting Burton off on the break to calmly slot in United’s fourth.
Coach Chris Hackett said
“It’s always difficult going behind early on so we’re very happy with how the boys reacted to come back and win confidently.
“There were some really nice patterns of play and some assured finishing, and then plenty of composure and quality to see the game out.
“It was a good all round team performance socially and physically and the boys need to build on that now.
