Oxford United Women secured their first three points of the season yesterday afternoon as they cruised to a 4-0 victory over Chatham Town Women.
The U’s put four past the visitors before half time at Court Place Farm to ensure an important victory to kickstart their campaign.
Midfielder Lily Stevens spoke to OUFC.co.uk after the game
“It was way better, we’re buzzing to get three points, it was really important that we did that today. We wanted to make a statement after a disappointing first three games so it was really good.
“We started really fast which is something we wanted to do and to put ourselves 4-0 up in the first half, it put ourselves in a fantastic position to relax and see out the game.
Stevens was superb in the middle of the park, playing slightly deeper than she is used to and providing a calming presence for the U’s.
“It was something that we’ve discussed and worked on and so I really focussed on doing that today. I think with Kate (Wiseman) in there with me we were able to control it when we needed to, and it was a big improvement from the first few games.
“The front three started really quickly and bought so much energy and put their back line under so much pressure early on. It gives us loads of momentum now to push on and we’re just so glad to get the first win under our belts so we are all buzzing.
The U’s now prepare to welcome Plymouth Argyle Women to Court Place Farm on Sunday 17th September.
