Oxford United Women had to battle hard to earn a 1-0 away victory at Cheltenham Town Ladies last night.
The only goal of the game was scored by captain Leah Burridge on the stroke of half time after the U’s had several chances miraculously saved, blocked and cleared by the Robinesses back line.
United then had to dig deep in the second half and defended their box excellently to see out the win in the driving rain to earn back to back victories.
Burridge told us
“It was a massive test and a massive challenge for us but we played a lot better today and it was great to see the hard work we’ve put in over the last couple of weeks really paid off today.
“I sat on the back post and waited for Jaime’s cross and just managed to slot it in.
“We were solid from the back and it was great to get a clean sheet and it was earnt across the pitch, winning first and second balls and that was a massive difference considering the last couple of weeks.
“We had to grind out a result and it went on for a long time but we were all up for it and it was great to see everyone turn up and perform as a team.
“There were a lot of connections out there today and you can see the relationships building, we’re starting to connect the ball and work hard for each other.
“After two wins in a week it’s definitely going to be a well needed break this weekend but fully deserved.
The U’s now have a blank weekend before travelling to London Bees on Sunday 22nd October.
