Oxford United Women secured an excellent 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town Women yesterday afternoon at Court Place Farm.
Kate Wiseman opened the scoring for the U’s with a screamer for her first Oxford goal, before Zoe Barratt, formerly of Ipswich, won the game in the 88th minute with a composed finish.
It was a confidence boosting victory and performance as the U’s went toe-to-toe with a side that will more than likely be around the top of the table come the end of the season.
Wiseman told us after the game
“It was a pretty tiring game but we did really well. We had a game plan coming into the game and we really executed it. We played together as a team with great communication so we’re all buzzing with the win.
“Honestly, for my goal, I could just hear Leah screaming at me to shoot so instead of taking too many touches as I normally do I actyally hit it for once and I think everyone saw how surprised I was. I’ve been hitting the post quite a lot in training but this one went in so I’m very pleased.
“You could see throughout the game we stayed together, it wasn’t one person doing their own thing and we built throughout the game. It would be easy to drop off into the second half but we reacted really well when we conceded and it was a big win for us.
The U’s now need to take that momentum into an away trip to Cheltenham Town Ladies at Kayte Lane on Thursday night.
