Oxford United Women were knocked out of the FAWNL Cup yesterday afternoon following a 2-0 loss away at Hashtag United Women.
Two goals conceded five minutes into each half from Malika Apindia and Sammy Rowlands meant that the U’s didn’t get through to the second round.
Interim Manager George Anthony spoke after the game
“I thought we could have managed the game better at times and look after the ball more. It was very transitional which played into the opposition hands and it became about how we managed that and how we tried to get control back in the game. I don’t think we did that enough.
“To concede so quickly after kick off and half time was frustrating. After the first goal I thought we came back onto the game and were pushing for the equaliser. At half time we knew the opposition would come out strong but it’s tough when you come out and concede early and are then chasing a 2-0 game.
“We had to chase the ball a lot in the second half and that was probably part of their game plan to make it transitional and try and play a little bit longer and spin our back line. That’s something we have to deal with and we didn’t do that today.
The U’s now have a week to prepare for a big home game against Ipswich Town Women on Sunday the 8th of October.
