There was a first senior goal for Fin Stevens last night as Oxford United beat Shrewsbury Town 3-0 at the Kassam Stadium.
The on-loan Brentford right-back scored the crucial opening goal as United scored three for the fourth game in a row, keeping up the pressure on leaders Portsmouth in Sky Bet League 1.
"The boys were buzzing" Stevens told iFollow. "We try not to get too high or get carried away after each result but you have to be happy when you win like that and to score three goals in four games consecutively is really good.
"I think the fans left the ground thinking we were top and by the time they got to their cars Portsmouth had scored and we weren't but that doesn’t really change anything. We still have a game in hand but the way we are playing the big thing is just to focus on ourselves.
"I am enjoying my football and being here. Helping the boys and Oxford win games means everything to me so to get my goal today was a great moment. It was a terrific cross from Greg Leigh but I thought the keeper was going to grab it so I was in two minds whether to go for it or not. But it kept coming and I jumped and just hit it as hard as I could really! All the boys came over to celebrate and to go a goal up quite early was a key moment in the game.
"The defenders are chipping in with the goals at the moment- three in this game, three on Saturday so yes we have been mentioning it to the forwards!
"Now we have another big game on Saturday against Bristol Rovers. Tonight was a good win but we willl switch focus by tomorrow, rest, recover, and go again.”
Come and get behind Fin and the team on Saturday, with a lunchtime kick-off at 12.30
