Oxford United Women held their annual Awards Evening over the weekend, celebrating the successes of their 2022/23 campaign.
Both the First Team and Development Squad came together to look back on what has been an incredible season.
Captain Riva Casley was voted as Player’s Player for the First Team after a momentous season at the heart of the Yellow’s defence, whilst goalkeeper Caitlin Crierie won the award for the Development Squad.
Jess Gray won Young Player of the Season, after performing extremely well for the first team on various occasions and stepping up as a leader during the Development Squad’s double winning season. Gray also captained the U’s to win the County Cup Final.
Paris Sercombe was voted by the fans to win Save of the Season, for her excellent stop from a close range header against Bridgwater United in the League Cup.
Holly Sellwood took home the Golden Boot for the Development Squad, whilst Deborah Rooke was awarded Volunteer of the Year, in what was also a fantastic celebration of the hard work, dedication and impact that volunteers have made throughout the year.
Manager Liam Gilbert said
“It’s been a fantastic season and the culture we are continuing to build here shines through both squads. We didn’t quite finish how we wanted to, but it’s important to look at the journey as a whole.
“The attitude and commitment of these groups of players has been phenomenal and deserves to be celebrated in and of itself, and tonight was a really nice way to do that.
“You can feel the buzz about the group who already are looking ahead to next season, and we can’t wait to get going again after a well-earned rest. A massive thank you to the supporters and volunteers who have helped us make big strides on and off the pitch this year.
