Oxford United return to action with a trip to Peterborough United on Saturday, looking to build on a hard-earned point at Morecambe in Liam Manning’s first game in charge.
The U’s have had a two-week break since that game but as winger Yanic Wildschut told this week’s Preview Show, an enforced break may well have been what United needed right now:
“We have had two weeks now and the Manager has got his ideas across well.
"When the game got called off last weekend everyone got frustrated because you want to play but I think in hindsight it was for the best for us. We have had two full weeks of working fully together now and hopefully we have done enough to get us ready for Saturday and for the last nine games
“We know the situation we are in and that we have nine big games that are going to come at us very fast. But the belief around the team and the club is there now and we are working hard so we hope the things we have done in training will reap their rewards on matchday.
“It’s all about results now and we need to get it right nine times in a row. When a new Manager comes in there is a lot of information to take on board but I think everyone has picked it up well and now we need to transfer that on to the matchday pitch. We know what we have to do.
“Peterborough are a good footballing team and that may suit us but every game this season is hard, no matter if they are the top teams or the ones a bit lower in the table. For me it doesn’t really matter who we play now. We just need to do our best and get the results. If it’s Peterborough or whoever, we are going there looking for three points, one if not, and we are going there to fight for everything and get a positive result.”
