Oxford United Women were in unstoppable form yesterday afternoon, putting six goals past Crawley Wasps to send themselves top of the Southern Premier Division.
They now sit a point above second placed Ipswich with a game in hand.
The U’s put on a show for the 500 plus fans at Court Place Farm, with Daisy McLachlan and Carly Johns both scoring excellent hat-tricks in what was a superb team display.
Manager Liam Gilbert was very impressed with his side
“They were brilliant and we’ve built on the last game and that’s one thing we wanted to make sure we carried on that momentum. The desire and commitment from every single one of them was fantastic and on another day we could’ve scored even more.
“I can’t fault anyone the way they’ve applied themselves and we’ve been superb in training for the last two or three weeks so it’s a really positive place at the moment.
“This group of players don’t know when to stop and we’re going to need that for this run in of fixtures. In the 80th minute they play a loose pass and we have five players go and they’ve gone hard; you can’t ask for more as coaching staff.
“I can’t wait to see some of the goals back. The great thing is there some brilliant team goals with loads of different assists. The way that some of the goals were created were fantastic.
Daisy McLachlan, who scored as good a hat-trick as you’re likely to see, knows how important the result was for confidence.
“I think the front three are all trying to be more clinical and you can see that from the scores of recent and if we can make opportunities then we’ll set ourselves up well. We went into this game knowing we had eight left and we need to treat every game the same and give everything we’ve got.
“Some big games and some big tests to come, nothing’s going to be easy in the final hurdle. We’ve got to continue building momentum and keep this mentality moving forward.”
The U’s now have a weekend without a game before welcoming MK Dons to Court Place Farm under the lights on Tuesday the 14th of March. Kick-off is at 7:45 PM
