Craig Short takes charge of the U’s for the first time on Saturday as they head for Lincoln City in Sky Bet League 1.
Craig is Caretaker Manager after Karl Robinson’s departure and the former Derby and Everton defender was typically open about the approach to Saturday’s game at the LNER Stadium.
“There’s been so much to think about this week and we want to prep right and make sure we get our ideas across” he told iFollow. “I’m grateful to Karl that he brought me to the club and some of the football we’ve played, my family has said it’s some of the best they’ve seen, cup runs we’ve had, producing young players. But now it’s about getting stability back.
“Sometimes when the manager goes the assistant goes too, so how long I’ll be here for I don’t know. What I do know is that I’ll do my best and give everything to get us winning games again. As a collective, we have to be better at keeping the ball out of the net.”
“Everyone needs to look at themselves. We still have to play our game but there has to be two sides and out of possession we haven’t been good enough.
“Away performances particularly need to be much better; physically we’ve been beaten up a bit at times so that needs to change. We watched Lincoln on Tuesday and they’re physical, direct, unbeaten at home so I’m looking forward to it.”
“The players we have here right now are the players who are going to get us out of trouble. We need to win our battles and our attacking players need to turn up as well to help us get the three points but I know we have the players here to win games, hopefully starting on Saturday.”
