Oxford United Women will be holding open training sessions for new players on Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd June, with places potentially available in the Senior and Development squads for the coming season.
The First Team had a hugely successful season, coming so close to promotion and playing in front of crowds that rose by an amazing 40% as women’s football continues to thrive. The Development Side were another big success story, winning a league and cup double with a squad that is mainly built around young players from Oxfordshire.
Women’s General Manager Gemma Sims told us:
“It was a very successful and very enjoyable year for all of us but we always want to push forward and keep evolving. We offered trials for for our girls player pathway programme and 350 young female footballers applied for those trials in June. That’s brilliant and shows the interest that grows year on year.
“These open sessions are for senior players. The First Team play in the National League and the Development Side are in the Women's National League Reserve South East & Central Division. That might sound a bit daunting, and it is by nature very competitive, but we know there are talented players out there who maybe are wondering how to make their next step, or perhaps players looking to return to competitive football.
“We are very welcoming and hopefully the events help us unearth players who want to become part of the next stage of our story”.
The open sessions take place:
Tuesday 20th June at Oxford City 7-9pm
Thursday 22nd June at Tilsley Park, Abingdon 8-9:30pm
