Oxford United are pleased to confirm that Jordan Thorniley has put pen to paper on a long-term agreement.
The 26-year-old former loanee will officially become an Oxford United player on 1st July after his contract with Blackpool has expired.
Thorniley, who had a successful period on loan with Oxford United during the 2021/22 season, is a versatile defender who can play at centre-back and left-back.
A product of Everton’s academy, Jordan signed for Sheffield Wednesday in 2016 before moving to Blackpool in 2020. He has also enjoyed loans spells with Stockport County, as well as Accrington Stanley during their promotion winning season to League One back in 2018.
“This is a club I know well following my time on loan. To have the chance to come back is a fantastic opportunity for me and one I couldn’t turn down,” Thorniley told OUFC.co.uk.
“The way Liam Manning wants to play really suits me and I believe I can develop here. I’ve been really impressed by the ambition of the club and can’t wait to get started.”
Head Coach, Liam Manning, said: "Jordan is a player we’ve been tracking for some time, and we’re delighted to get this one done.
“He’s a very technical defender and has all the attributes we are looking for. He reads the game well, is comfortable with the ball at his feet and good in one-on-one situations. We think he’ll do very well in the system we play.”
Ed Waldron, Head of Player Recruitment, commented: “Jordan is another great addition to our squad and someone who will only get better working under Liam. We are all looking forward to seeing him back in an Oxford United shirt.”
