Oxford United Women are delighted to announce the signing of winger Tash Stephens from fellow Southern Premier League side Crawley Wasps.
United Women have strengthened up top by adding competition to their already impressive roster of attacking forwards, by completing the signing of Stephens.
The winger, who scored nine times in 30 appearances last season and twice already this season, joins Naomi Cole and Iesha Swaby in making the move from Crawley to the U’s.
Tash had also been captaining her side before making the switch to the Yellows and told us
“I’ve been training here for a few weeks; the girls are lovely and the way they play is great so I’m really excited to get going. I’ve played against Oxford a few times over the years, and I know what they’re about. Honestly, it’s a surprise that they haven’t been in this position before because it’s a strong club and it’s an amazing set up so it’s really exciting opportunity to be a part of it.”
“I’m a very tenacious player, I like to get at people and get forward to try and create chances, but I love the dirty work of football as well. I want to get back and get stuck in to help defensively and all I want to do is win games.”
Tash knows the League well, having played for Crawley for nearly four years.
“There’s so many talented players in this League and this year is no different, so being at the top is a really great opportunity to try and get out of this tough league” she added, and when asked about her goal targets, she replied:
“Honestly, my target is to win games, if I do that by scoring, great, by assisting, great, or by winning a last-ditch tackle, I just want to win at all costs, that’s just how I play. It would be nice to pop up with a few goals, but I just want to help the team win games as much as possible.”
Manager Liam Gilbert said
“Tash is a great addition to the squad both as a player and a person, and I think fans will really enjoy her work rate and ability on the ball. We’ve had to play against her plenty of times and it’s never easy keeping her quiet so it’ll be nice to have that weapon on our side from now on and we hope she can add more competition in the squad to help us keep our momentum up.”
Come and see Tash and the rest of the squad at Bridgwater United as the U’s return to action for the first time in 2023 this Sunday, the 8th of January.
