Kyle Joseph’s return from injury was a dramatic one as his goal set Oxford United on the way to a 2-1 win at Fleetwood on Saturday.
Kyle has been out since November but scored within seconds of coming on as a sub at Highbury as the U’s hit back to claim an important three points.
“They were my first touches of the ball and it was a surreal feeling to get that goal after eight weeks being out” he told iFollow. “I want to thank the medical team for looking after me - Amy, Luis, Spike and Andy Caton they have all been brilliant and kept me going through a tough period. I am just happy to be involved again now and it was great to contribute today and get a win.
“When I got the ball I just thought ‘run!’ Just do what I do best! I just wanted to make up for lost time and I wanted to give a bit of energy to the team when I got on. I almost got a second but the ball wouldn’t drop for me but hopefully now I just get opportunities and get back to full match fitness. The only way to do that is to play matches so that will all come in the next few weeks.
“It has been tough to be out of the side for a couple of months. Getting back is quite repetitive with long days so it is tough but you have to be strong mentally and stay positive.
“The first half was a bit flat today and we knew we had to improve. In the second half I thought we showed more of what we can do. It’s up to us now. We have to start games better and we can’t pick and choose when we turn it on. We have to start with energy and put in a shift for the whole 90 minutes. Because if you do that you can always get points in this league.”
