Karl Robinson was in defiant mood despite his side slipping to a fourth defeat in a row with a 1-0 defeat at home to Shrewsbury on Saturday.
“People can criticise, that’s fine, but that is a group of players who ran their hearts out today” he told iFollow. We were so close to a result and that seems to the be the story right now. We will put this right. I promise you that.
“The Burton performance was so bad that it put us into this negative space where we have to respond and be positive. I thought against Barnsley we were the better team for large parts of the game and then against a Shrewsbury team who have now won five in row we were the better team and had plenty of shots on target, a lot of chances and territorial advantage. We should have had a penalty, we hit both posts but right now nothing is dropping for us.
“I have just seen a team that cares and the one thing that Oxford fans want to see is their players giving it everything, and they did that today.
"They put everything into the game so right now we have to stay strong, we have to stay together and we have to keep believing in the effort and what we do on the training ground.”
