Oxford United will raise funds to help the family of a club legend tomorrow night when they welcome Plymouth Argyle to the Kassam Stadium.
It’s a year since Joey Beauchamp passed away but as Karl Robinson told iFollow today, a game in his memory is a chance for fans to show how loved Joey still is.
“It’s not just about Joey the player” he said “it’s about his family. He loved his daughters and we want to show them how much the club loved their dad as well.
“I saw the shock among the staff when the news came through a year ago and the way we celebrated his life was incredible. Now we have to make sure we look after those he left behind".
£1 from every ticket will be donated to a trust fund for his family and the Polythene UK Fifty/50 half time draw will also go to the Beauchamp family. However Karl knows that it is not just an emotional evening for fans
“Not at all” he said “we have a very important game to try and win. We put in a better performance in the second half at MK on Saturday and we have to carry that on now. Plymouth are going really well. I’m not surprised. I had a cup of coffee with their Manager on the day he took over and I knew he would be a success. He has Neil Dewsnip alongside him who coached me as a kid and who is very organised and the pair of them are doing a great job.
“They are playing with a lot of confidence and we have to get back to doing that as well. We will. I am sure of it. I saw players step up and take responsibility on Saturday, we have players getting stronger all the time after injury and we will get stronger as a team as a result of that.
“Hopefully the fans come along and pay their respects to Joey and then get right behind the team and help us get three points.”
