Goodrham's Good Ground

Tyler Goodrham’s goal was enough to send Oxford United through to the last 16 of the inaugral Bristol Street Motors Trophy last night as the U’s won 1-0 at Forest Green Rovers.

In a tough cup tie Goodrham’s goal guided the U’s into Friday night’s draw and also brought back memories of a goal he scored on the same ground late last season which guaranteed United’s survival in League 1.

“We were saying before the game about my goal here last season and trying to get another one” he told iFollow. “It’s obviously a nice ground for me! It was just nice to get a goal that helped us go through.

“The goal was down to Josh Murphy who is absolute lightning and it was no surprise to see him reach the ball and to see the impact he made after coming on. It was a really tough game, a proper battle. Forest Green are a good side and made it very difficult for us but we defended really well when we had to.

“But it was like Saturday’s FA Cup tie, the main thing is just to make sure you get through and to try to progress as far as you can in every competition.

“To come away with a win is another big positive. We are picking up results in every competition. The new Manager has been good; he wants to get to know you as a person first and has had little chats with us all and that has been really helpful. That makes you want to go out there, run around and do the hard side of the game first, the hard work you need to put in and the tough bits of the game.

“The fans were great again like they always are. We could see how cold it was and how cold they must have been watching us on Saturday and then here. But they were still there, still turning up in numbers and getting right behind us. That will be the same at Peterborough on Saturday and we really appreciate that support and it continues to drive us forward.”
