Oxford United came away from Reading with a draw last night after Ciaron Brown’s first half header was cancelled out by a Sam Smith goal just before half time.
“Over all I think we should have walked away with all three points” Ciaron told iFollow. “Performance wise it was a lot better compared to Saturday. We were a lot better with the ball and without it, a lot more structured. We created enough to get a couple more goals but it wasn’t quite our day. It’s a point away from home but I think we all wanted to give our fans a win in a local derby. Having dominated we should have got more out of it.
“We fell for a sucker punch conceding just before the break. If we go in a goal up then it changes the game massively. Once Reading had something to hang on to they sat in a bit and tried to hit us on the counter. We are kind of used to that this season but we should have done more in the second half really. But now that’s gone and we just go again on Saturday at home to Burton.
“The fans deserved the win. When we came out just for the warm up we were all looking and seeing all the fans and hearing how loud they were. We always want to get the points for the fans but especially when it’s a big night like this was. We want to win and do well in every game but it feels more important in games like this one so we thank the fans for being there for us tonight.
“It has been a bit of a transition as everyone knows but I think the performance tonight showed that we are getting back to where we were. It’s not all doom and gloom and we will keep working to get back to where we should be.”
