There was no doubting Oxford United’s Man of the Match on Saturday as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat at Peterbrough.
Young keeper James Beadle was in outstanding form despite the scoreline and spoke for the players when he vowed that they would respond when they travel to Reading on Tuesday night.
“It’s no consolation at all to make a few saves and for people to say nice things about my own performance” he told iFollow. “It’s a collective thing and you want a team performance and we weren’t at it today so that was really disappointing.
“We were in it for 15 minutes and started quite well, we had plenty of possession but then the first goal changed the game really. After that we didn’t play well enough as a team so we know we have to get back in on Monday, get it right, and then Tuesday is a massive game for us.
“We did respond in the second half; Josh Murphy came on and looked really good, we created a few chances although nothing really clear-cut. We looked a lot better and caused them problems but the damage had been done in the first half.
“Now we will react to that. We all know we are a good team so we will just get back on the training pitch on Monday and get back to how we know we can play. We will set up properly and make sure we perform on Tuesday night. We know how good we are, we just didn’t show it today. But we have Tuesday night and then a home game on Saturday- two opportunities to play the way we know we can.”
