Oxford United step in to their Christmas fixtures when they travel to Northampton Town on Saturday.
The U’s are in good form and looking to close the gap to the top two when they make the short trip to the Cobblers in their last game before Christmas, as Boss Des Buckingham told iFollow earlier today.
“We’ve had seven games now since I’ve been here” he said. “Three wins, two draws and lost two. There are a couple of cup games in that but the league is our priority. We have kept four clean sheets in those seven games and we are a point off second in the table so we are in a wonderful position. We are in the Third Round of the FA Cup, through to the last 16 in the Trophy so we are in a good space all round.
“I thought there were good signs against Reading and we should have won that game but then I thought we were a joy to watch on Saturday against Burton. We hadn’t created too many chances in games but on Saturday we had 28 shots, 14 on target. We did that playing a certain way and it was very pleasing.
“We can’t play that way every week, we know we will have to tweak things when needed but it was pleasing to see how the players have adapted and we have had a full week this week with no midweek game.
“That’s the first time we’ve had that time together and we have used it very productively. There have been good signs but now we know there will be a new challenge waiting for us at Northampton.
“We need to use the last couple of games as a springboard and look to win the next one to send us into the Christmas games with a win. It’s another one with a sell out away crowd so we know we are going to have that support behind us and it’s one we are really looking forward to.”
