Oxford United are delighted to announce the signing of Liverpool forward Max Woltman for an undisclosed fee.
Max, 19, joined Liverpool as a five-year-old and, having signed his first professional deal in 2021, made his senior debut against Milan in the Champions League in the same year. After a loan spell at Doncaster Rovers last season, he trained with Oxford earlier in the summer and was highly impressive in two appearances as a trialist, as Head Coach Liam Manning told us:
“From the first day you could see he was technically very good: you would expect that from someone with his pedigree growing up and playing the Liverpool way. But he also has a fantastic attitude and a real hunger to be part of what we are building here, both for now and for the medium and long term. Max fits in really well with those plans.”
Max was equally pleased to be joining the club:
“I was made to feel part of things very quickly. This is a very talented squad and the coaches have been first class with me. I like the set up, like the way they want to play the game and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Head of Recruitment, Ed Waldron, added:
“He is an exciting player to watch and has grown up at Anfield, so he has a fantastic background. He can play as an attacking midfielder or slightly further forward, and the key word here is potential. We believe he will be a big asset to us, as will all of the new arrivals this summer. With the season just a few days away now we will continue to work hard in the background to put the finishing touches to what we think is a very exciting squad.”
Max will wear number 27 and becomes United’s eighth signing of the summer after James Beadle, Fin Stevens, Jordan Thorniley, Josh McEachran, Stanley Mills, Ruben Rodrigues and Mark Harris.
