Oxford United Women’s Development Squad have had a positive start to the season.
We caught up with George Anthony, Manager of the Development side, to talk about the beginning of a busy season ahead.
The young U’s season didn’t start as they may have hoped, losing narrowly to MK Dons 2-1 in the league. But since then, the squad have bounced back emphatically, winning 8-1 against Enfield Town
“The start of the 2022-23 season has been positive so far. We have been provided with different tests and challenges in our opening three games and have seen many aspects of training transfer across into the games, which has been great,” said George.
Then, last weekend, the development squad faced local rivals Swindon Town Women in the first round of the FAWNL Reserve Cup. The U’s progressed to the second round with a comfortable 6-0 victory to bring home the bragging rights.
“Last weekend we played Swindon in the cup, which was a great derby day experience, so it had a little more riding on it than normal. As expected, it was a toughly fought contest which we were able to overcome thankfully.”
“We are excited for the next round of games and to get October started with a tough game away to Watford” added Anthony.
