Oxford United are excited to welcome Grundon Waste Management as Match Sponsor for our Sky Bet League 1 encounter with Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday, 3pm Kick Off.
Grundon is the UK’s largest family-owned waste management and environmental services company. Headquartered in Benson, near Wallingford, Grundon has had a local presence in Oxfordshire since 1946.
Since then, the business has grown in the area and now employs over 250 people in Oxfordshire at operating facilities in Banbury and Ewelme, which includes waste collection services, recycling operations and a Hazardous Waste Transfer station, along with the Head Office in Benson.
Grundon currently has a wide range of vacancies across the county and its wider operating area in the South of England to suit all skills, including HGV Mechanics, LGV Drivers, Chemists, as well as Plant Operative and Labourer roles.
With environmental issues high on the agenda, it has never been a better time to consider a career in the waste management and environmental services industry.
HGV Mechanic
If you're an experienced HGV Mechanic looking for a new opportunity, how about fleet work in a great team working in their clean and well-equipped workshop at Ewelme. Large goods vehicle experience is essential and ideally, you’re qualified or semi-skilled (City & Guilds HGV Parts 1,2 or 3 NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent). If you don’t have these qualifications then you must have 10 years’ experience working on HGV vehicles. Ideally, you’ll also hold a current LGV licence (Class 2 minimum) and digital tachograph card.
Class 2 LGV Drivers
If you’re a Class 2 LGV Driver looking for a new job that frees up your evenings, they have vacancies collecting commercial waste from businesses in and around the Oxfordshire area. Working areas are normally Mon-Fri from 5.30am to 2.30pm, plus alternate Sat mornings, 5.00am to 9.30am, working an average of 44.75 hours per week.
They require a valid LGV Class 2 licence, Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and a digital tachograph driver card. It would be great if you have experience driving waste collection vehicles, but it’s not essential as they provide training on a number of different vehicle types.
Plant Operative
Do you have experience of operating machinery and mobile plant, including loading shovels, 360 excavators and telehandlers? If you're also naturally practical and willing to work outdoors, you could be the new team member at Grundon's waste transfer station and recycling processing plant at Ewelme.
Site Chemists
Are you a hands-on graduate chemist interested in the fascinating and thriving environmental sector, or do you already have experience and are looking to step up? Either way, here’s your chance to join Grundon's industry-leading hazardous waste transfer facility in South Oxfordshire and gain further skills plus progression opportunities.
Joining a hard-working and highly skilled team, you’ll help with the day-to-day operation of the transfer station – receiving incoming consignments of waste, checking documentation, completing waste transfer notes and raising non-conformances. Other duties will include unloading and loading lorries, operating forklift trucks (we’ll train you up) and inspecting, classifying and segregating waste deliveries. You’ll also be expected to ensure the site is kept tidy.
Working alongside their Site Chemists, are their:
Waste Facility Labourers
Are you keen to get trained up on operating forklift trucks, plus machinery and other plant (or perhaps you already have experience)? Looking for an active job in an enthusiastic team? Happy to work outdoors in all weathers? If you're practical, reliable and really want to learn, then Grundon's Waste Facility Labourer role could suit you down to the ground.
Welder / Fabricator
Finally, if you have welding and fabrication experience, including MIG welding, Grundon want to hear from you. There's plenty to keep you busy in this practical job which involves working with a variety of different metals and materials, cutting, heating, melting and joining them together.
As Welder Fabricator, you will play a key part in ensuring customers' waste containers and compaction are returned to them in good condition, by repairing and refurbishing them to high standards and making parts. Carrying out testing before they go back into service is all part of the job.
