Saturday’s game against Wycombe Wanderers saw plenty of potential new fans visiting the Kassam Stadium for the first time as the club worked with Brookes University on a new student initiative.
The club’s marketing team attended the recent Brookes’ Freshers Fair, spending a day talking to the new students, talking football, and offering free tickets to either the Wycombe game or our next home game against Peterborough United.
As a result close to 200 students came along on Saturday and as Supporter Marketing Executive Sam Heason explained, hopefully this is just the start:
“It was a good day at the Freshers Fair and the interest in Oxford United was amazing. The majority of students probably support their own team when they arrive in Oxford but most of those we talked to said they wanted to come along and watch a game. If we have made that easier, explaining where we are, how to get to the game, giving them a fixture list then that’s only going to help.
“We gave them tickets and were more than pleased with the number who came along. We hope they come back to see more games, and are confident that others will come along to games in the future as well, starting against Peterborough.
“There are other benefits as well: the medical team have two interns from Brookes and off the back of last week another student has already been in touch about a possible film project. We have a good relationship with Brookes, and with Oxford University, and those are things we want to grow and develop.”
