Defender Ciaron Brown scored a superb goal as the U’s won 3-1 at Bolton on Saturday, but then realised he may be in trouble when he got home!
The one thing I let myself down with was the celebration” he told iFollow. “I have a new-born baby and my Mrs is going to kill me for not doing a goal celebration for our baby. I don’t score many so I don’t really understand what you’re meant to do!! Maybe I’ll go away and rehearse something for Tuesday night…”
Celebration apart, Ciaron was in outstanding form as the U’s made it four points from two difficult away games.
“It was always going to be hard after the week we have had” he said “but I am proud of the boys that we could get the win. We are starting to turn things around now. The performances have been there but the results, on paper, just haven’t been good enough.
“Even when the results haven’t been going our way we don’t fear anyone. We know the players in our dressing room are good enough and we can go anywhere and get a result. We just need to keep picking up the results now.
“Defensively we have dug in together. The red cards against Peterborough and Portsmouth meant we had to dig deep but that’s when you gel as a unit. We had to defend well again today but I think everybody is understanding everyone’s game and their strengths and weaknesses now. We help each other and it is paying off.”
United now welcome Fleetwood Town to the Kassam Stadium on Tuesday night with the former Cardiff defender hoping for another goal and another win. Did the chants from the Bolton fans, insisting that he is a lesser Andy Carroll, inspire him?
“Yeah, he’d have scored a better one than that! They can sing what they want” Ciaron laughed. “ We got the result and we go again on Tuesday now.”
