A win at home on Sunday saw the Oxford United Women’s Development Squad move top of the table.
The U’s beat third placed Cambridge City Reserves 4-2 at Oxford United’s training ground to move above MK Dons Reserves and into first place.
A. Harris-Beechers scored twice, with L. Gilmore and I. Kinsella also on target.
United put the pressure on the unbeaten MK Dons Reserves who now have to win their game in hand to reclaim the top spot.
Manager George Anthony knows that the Young U’s need to keep their momentum.
“We’ve been playing really well of late and it’s really encouraging to see. It was great to be back at homeand I thought we put in a brilliant team performance against a tough opponent. Cambridge City are a very well organised side and we couldn’t afford to drop any points as we try to close the gap on MK Dons. We were clinical when we needed to be and we’ll have a look at the goals we conceded throughout the week but overall it was another strong performance and result” said Anthony.
The U’s now look ahead to the Oxfordshire County Cup this weekend, as they host Kidlington Youth Ladies at Court Place Farm.
The club are giving the Development Squad the chance to play in this competition, which is a fantastic opportunity for the young players to get a feel of what a first team matchday experience is all about.
“We’re really excited to play in front of some fans and to help the club progress in the competition. For the players to be able to perform in front of their family and friends at a place where Oxford United have made a fortress is a special opportunity.”
Come along and support the U’s in a double header at Court Place Farm on Sunday the 20th of November, as Oxford City Women face Procision before the U’s face Kidlington Youth Ladies.
