While most of the Oxford United squad get a well-earned break this summer midfielder Oisin Smyth will be part of a Northern Ireland International Training Camp.
United’s exciting young midfielder has been a regular in Northern Ireland’s under 21 side and next week will be part of a senior squad training group at St. George’s Park.
The 22-year-old has had to bide his time during his time with the U’s but told us how pleased he is to be part of Northern Ireland’s plans for the future.
“I’m looking forward to next week” he told us. “It’s a chance to be around the senior group and nice to be part of that.
“I’ve learned a lot over the last few months at Oxford. Obviously I have had to be patient but at the same time I have worked hard and feel like I have now made that adjustment to full-time football: Gavin Whyte, Mark Sykes and Luke McNally all had a similar experience when they came over to Oxford and they have been great with me, telling me to be patient and be ready when I do get my chance.
“Hopefully I can meet up with the Northern Ireland squad and continue to learn from experiences like this.”
