Oxford United are extremely proud to have been awarded the EFL Family Excellence award for the 2021/22 season.
The club works hard to make the matchday experience a welcoming one for families and is proud to have been nominated for the award each year since we returned to the Football League in 2010.
Managing Director Niall McWilliams spoke on behalf of the club when he said
“We want all of our matches to feel safe and inclusive for all of our fans and that all starts by building a great place for families to come along and watch games together.
“It was clearly a very challenging time this season where we moved back to fans coming along after Lockdown and the team behind the scenes deserve so much praise for keeping our standards really high.
“Some things we simply couldn’t do because of Covid- Olly the Ox for example had a season off but will be back and we have big plans for Olly and for the whole Family Area.
“The award is judged by two ‘mystery visits’ through the season. A family come to a game and we get feedback from that visit and then a different family come along later in the season for a second visit. We are delighted to have got such positive feedback from both visits and there was praise for our staff, individually and as a group, and that is nice to hear because everyone always goes out of their way to make families feel welcome.
“There are areas we can improve, we know that, and we are working with the Supporters Panel to make things even better next season, but at the same time it is great to receive the award and for our hard work to be recognised in this way.”
